So when a leader of a cult goes to jail, how do their devotees handle it? I imagine it's different in every case, but there always a few 'true believers' that want to keep the scam going. In the case of NXVM, leader Keith Raniere went to jail and many breathed a sigh of relief (despite a recent attempt by his lawyer to claim mistrial claiming Federal agents planted porn on his digital device).
It recently came to light that there is a news organization being run by NXVM members. The website is called The Knife of Aristotle and they claim to be "safeguarding against distorted news".
Brock Wilbur discovered this story by applying for a job there. Link below.
From their website The Knife of Aristotle describes itself as:
A subscription-based service providing news without spin or slant, The Knife Media sources its facts from more than 50 news outlets. By seeking to eliminate bias from reporting, The Knife Media hopes to equip readers with the tools necessary to make their own judgments regarding the news and events of the day.
With many sites popping up to spread their own versions of the day's happenings, the ability to spot propaganda, fake news, and other untruths masquerading as reality is essential. When confronted with a shocking news story, even if one wants to believe it, readers or viewers should take the time to look closely at the story. These steps will help you get started in discerning the truth of a piece.
Check the original sources, especially if they contain statistics. Some false news stories can show alarming charts that claim to be sourced from a reputable organization that doesn't actually exist.
Similarly, check dates and locations. Some news stores aren't completely fake, but instead rely on the reader losing track of the timeline of events in the story.
In May, Elon Musk unwittingly called attention the The Knife of Aristotle by tweeting a link to one of their articles. He has been speaking on social media lately about ranking members of the media. He cited a Knife article as fairly reporting.
After the tweet, Musk was met with criticism about 'The Knife' being staffed by members of NXVM. David Z. Morris wrote an article entitled "Elon Musk Criticizes Media by Tweeting Link to Article With Ties to Sex Cult"
Morris says:
Elon Musk’s ongoing criticism of the media took a strange turn late Saturday when he praised an analysis of media bias produced by a website linked to NXIVM, a group which federal prosecutors have described as an exploitative pyramid scheme. Keith Raniere, the group’s charismatic leader, was arrested in March on sex-trafficking charges, with charging documents describing a system of sexual blackmail and domination. The article Musk praised looks conventional enough, and there’s no evidence he was aware of its troubling origins.
One of the reasons I am for occupying cults, is they tend to not want to stop unless they are stopped. Paying attention to people who lie, manipulate, traffick and enslave and entrap people as they morph into various side hustles and new ventures is important. Why? Because what a lot of people do in religious or improvement cults is destroy people. Great job internet. The Knife of Aristotle has ties to NXVM members, this much we know is true.
