Lighthouse International Group (LIG) Scandal hits Daily News
Leader Paul Waugh Attempts to obliterate Testimonial Video Leaks 4/19 - 4/24/22
Cult Madness alert: Lighthouse International Group is currently in a media war with a few members online after the Daily Mail ran a story about ex-members telling personal horror stories of being manipulated in money grabbing schemes. The scams are in the thousands.
In pictures and video, leader Paul Waugh seems to be doing his best Robin Leach impression boasting wealth and financial stablility and living in luxurious style.
What happened last week? April 19, 2022 a damning article - with several ex - members participating - came out via the Daily Mail by Tom Kelly and Adam Luck. The leader Paul Waugh, went legal and states that everything was wrong and taken out of context. Waugh makes an introductory statement on what he’s about at his WordPress website paulstephenwaugh.com.
“Lighthouse International Group is the fruit of my humbling entrepreneurial and servant leadership journey spanning the last 25 years of my life.”
The skinny:
Members of the group agree to being life-coached to improve their finances and life goals. The costs are $100 an hour on average. Some take out loans to invest in the training.
The Daily Mail article articulates a damning two hour phone call with one female member who wants a refund of her 25,000 pounds. When she requests this of Waugh, he reminds her that her childhood sexual abuse details from one of their sessions are still in posession of the group and that they will be used against her. He then moves on to threatening her with removal of her kids stating that he is "very connected" to government agencies and has done work there.
One member that agreed to be named told the progression of his terrible story. Here is the excerpt from the Daily Mail.
Anthony Church, of Peterborough, started volunteering with Lighthouse in late 2017, a year after completing his master's degree in applied computing. He later joined one of its therapy groups and was assigned a mentor to help with anxiety and depression, which he had struggled with since a teenager. He paid £13,700 in mentoring fees, but said as he began to look into the group, he grew concerned about how it operated. He wrote a polite email explaining he was leaving and raised warnings with some other members.
His actions triggered a series of increasingly desperate and then aggressive responses from Lighthouse, threatening to report him to police and take out a restraining order.
Following the Daily Mail article on 4/19/22, a video was released and circulated on Twitter and Reddit that I personally saw, sent by a cult awareness friend online, and fellow cult survivor.
The video was Paul Waugh and several upper level members, white males, talking about how he has recordings on everyone from therapy sessions that they had and how they could be used to silence ex-members. The video was removed by April 24 and is no longer available on YouTube.
One school teacher Joe Holmes, when asking for a receipt for her 19,000 pound investment, was called crazy and the organization called the school she worked at and said she was a threat to the children and crazy.
They do not mess around in protecting their financial booty taken from participating members. And receipts are not given.
None of the Lighthouse Group are trained members of psychiatry, though they offer therapy for stress and trauma.
Waugh even quotes Jesus' teachings but tells members they shouldn't worship him as a fat bald Jesus. Mmmm. Okay.
There are scant articles about this group, and this drama - and clearly the group is working overtime to bring suit against anyone who speaks out. This one is going to unravel and we should pay close attention to this space.
Members have lost thousands of dollars on "counselling" to improve their lives and the Lighthouse International Group based in the UK are not going to go quietly to their demise.
Paul Waugh lives in a 2 million pound estate and targets new members on LinkedIn. Life improvement is a long-standing go-to for cults and dangerous groups. Tell a friend to pay attention to this one, to make sure other unsuspecting victims do not get roped in.
